On Thursday, May 31st, Maine Sport Outfitters partnered with Maine Coast Heritage Trust (MCHT) for a day of service on Black Island in Muscongus Bay. The volunteers devoted their time to removing beach trash and improving the new trail to the south end of the island. This volunteer day is a feature of the new Maine Sport Outfitters' wellness initiative which encourages the employees to participate in paid-volunteer days. The Outdoor Programs Department at Maine Sport uses Black Island's beaches and campsites for its guided kayaking and overnight camping trips. As a heavy user of public-use islands along the Maine Coast, Maine Sport Outfitters strives to improve the areas impacted by its guided trips through service days in both the early summer and fall. Black Island is one of the many preservation sites owned and run by MCHT. For more information about the variety of protected land in Maine, please visit www.mcht.org.
