Mt Katahdin is the iconic hike in Maine and the famous location of the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. The prominence of this mountain is stunning, the views are spectacular, but the real beauty of this hike is its relentless physicality - a true hiker’s hike.
Join Maine Sport as we aim to summit Mt Katahdin, in the very best fashion... with two spectacular overnights in one of New England's best campsites, the epic campground at Chimney Pond. We’ll overnight in the Chimney Pond bunkhouse before and after making the ascent of Baxter Peak. Depending upon the capability of the group, we’ll either loop across Pamola Peak and tackle the famed Knife’s Edge or ascend the Saddle or Cathedral trails and retrace our path back down to Chimney Pond.
Maine Sport will provide round-trip transportation, a registered Maine Guide, two nights lodging at the Chimney Pond Bunkhouse, and two backpackers’ dinners and breakfasts at Chimney Pond.
Day One: Meet at Maine Sport in Rockport, drive to Baxter State Park, and hike up to Chimney Pond to make camp and prepare dinner.
Day Two: Ascend Baxter Peak and top out on Katahdin, then descend back down to Chimney Pond for a well-earned celebratory meal.
Day Three: Hike out from Chimney Pond to Roaring Brook and drive back to Rockport.
Cost: $800 per person
Dates: 2025 TBD
What to bring:
Mt. Katahdin can be all four seasons any time of the year, so pack appropriately. Sturdy hiking boots are a must as the trail is exceedingly rocky. A synthetic base layer, synthetic insulating layer, and rain gear are a requirement. Buy the gear you need here, or visit one of our stores.
