Maine Sport Outfitters owners Marianne and Stuart Smith, who started their business in 1976, recently met with their management staff to announce that store manager Gregg Perry will be retiring in the Spring of 2019. Gregg has worked with the Smiths for more than 27 years, overseeing all operations of Maine Sport. "Under his leadership, Maine Sport has continued to flourish as a leader in outdoor clothing, guided trips, equipment sales and as an integral part of the Camden and Rockport communities," the Smiths told their staff.
The Smiths also announced that Troy Curtis, former Penobscot Bay YMCA CEO, will assume the Maine Sport Outfitters leadership and general management position upon Gregg’s retirement. Troy, who had spent 20 years working within and leading the YMCA, will be joining a dedicated team of individuals, many of whom have been with Maine Sport Outfitters for over 20 years. “I am honored and truly excited to join this talented and enthusiastic team and to continue Maine Sport’s strong history of serving the community. I believe Maine Sport holds a unique and special place within our Midcoast communities and I am thrilled to embark on this next phase of my career.”
The Smiths announced to their staff that Troy would come on board in September and work in transition with Gregg through the fall and winter seasons. “We are very excited to have someone that is already so connected to our communities and respected for his leadership in both youth and adult recreation. Troy is an outstanding leader who holds the same vision that we have of how important it is to be connected to the great Maine outdoors. Troy will continue to expand on our outdoor programs, products and services and we look forward to seeing his vision for Maine Sport’s future take shape.”
