MITA cleans up Gay Island

On Saturday, June 9th, Maine Sport Outfitter’s Gay Island Lodge partnered with the Maine Island Trail Association (MITA) for a day of cleanup along the beach. MITA members filled ten bags of trash and collected larger items including several Styrofoam billets and tires. These items were taken off the island and disposed of properly. Rose Weggler, the Gay Island Lodge caretaker, said “As sad as it is to see all of this trash wash up on a daily basis, I was overwhelmed with joy and gratitude as I witnessed the volunteers preserve this land with such passion and determination.”

Collaborating with MITA was an exciting opportunity for the Gay Island Lodge and recently, MITA held a Chainsaw Safety Course for it's volunteers on the property. For more information about the Gay Island Lodge, click here.
